Virginia Tech at Virginia 6pm eastern (Sunday, Jan. 22) Virginia Tech +8
These two teams play in the ACC and are state rivals. The total is set for 113.5 so they are expecting a low scoring game. They have played overtime in 3 of the last 8 games and the last 7 games have been decided by 7, 3, 6, 5, 14, 3 and 7 points.
Virginia just won by 70-38 at Georgia Tech but the games before that were close:
lost at Duke by 3 beat Miami by 52-51 won at LSU by 57-52 beat Towson 57-50 (0-20 on the year)
The Cavaliers did beat Goeroge Mason by 20 and Michigan by 12 at home earlier in the year. Center A. Sene hurt his ankle in the GT game and will be out. He is known for solid defense inside.
Virginia Tech just lost at home to UNC but the Tar Heels were motivated by a bad road loss at Florida State by 33 points last week. Let's look at some Va. Tech games:
lost to UNC by 14 lost at BC by 2 lost at home to FSU by 4 lost at Wake Forest by 3 won at Rhode Island by 11 won at Okla State by 6 lost at Minn by 3 lost to Syracuse by 11 (neutral court)
Seth Greenberg's VT Hokies are 0-4 in the ACC and travel to ranked Virginia on Sunday ready to bounce back. I expect a close game. Virginia does have Mike Scott at close to 17 ppg and Harris at 12.6 as the only double digit scorers.
Tech has Green 16 ppg, Hudson 11.7 and Eddie at 10 ppg. Take the underdog on Sunday in a close low scoring game.

The last 8 meetings at Iona have gone under the total. Rider games average 148 points and Iona's are at 158. The last 3 home games for Iona have rwached 137, 147 and 134 points. However, they did get to 176 points in the last game on the road and played a 167 point game vs. Richmond and 184 with LIU as well as some early season overs.
Also, this game is at 10pm eastern and much later than a normal game start. Over 164 won't shock me but I like our chances for an under with such a high total with a late start on Friday night.

ODU at Towson #781/#782 7pm eastern (Wed. Jan. 18) over 108.5
These two already played this year at ODU and it was 75-38 (113 points). Towson is a bad team that hasn't won a game this year. ODU plays at VCU on Saturday and may be looking ahead to the game with the Rams.
ODU games average 63-63 (126 points) while Towson's are at 49-74 (123).
Towson should be motivated to play well after the first game and be familiar with the Monarchs defense. Last year, when these two met at Towson they only reached 98 points but in the second game it made it to a total of 137 points. Towson's team has changed since then.
Damas leads the team at 11.7 ppg and he struggled in the first game. Robert Nwankwo averages 11.2 ppg and has struggled this year but has played against ODU in the past.
ODU scoring:
Bazemore 14.5 Cooper 10.5 Iliadis 8 Batten 8 Wright 8 Hill 7 Ross 6
The over has won 7 of the last 8 meetings. I am hoping that Towson will score some at home vs. a team they have already played. They only made two 3-pointers in the first game. Hopefully, Towson plays more like Tigers than kittens!

The last 6 meetings have reached 155, 154 (before OT), 151, 182, 146 and 172. Missouri is home and the least amount of points they have scored with an opponent in a game has been 135 this year. Even the road game at ODU ended with 143 scored and the o/u was set for 135.5 in that game.
Mo. games average 147 ppg while A&M is at 120 so the oddsmakers split the difference. Missouri gets 18 ppg from Denmon and 15 ppg from English while Ratcliffe is at 13.7.
A&M has Middleton 13 ppg, Turner 13 ppg and Loubeau 10 ppg. A&M did play an 84-64 (148) game with Florida on a neutral court.
This game does start at 5:30pm and the odd time does concern me for a slow start but the Tigers are the home team and should control the pace.

In Duke's last 3 games they won at home over Virginia by 3, won at Georgia Tech by 7 and lost to Temple by 5 in Philadelphia. They lost at Ohio State by 22 in a true road game in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Duke is 2-0 in the ACC and now travels to Clemson who just lost on the road to Boston College. The Tigers have played one home ACC game and beat FSU by 20 points.
Last year at home in the conference Clemson lost just one game and that was by 2 to UNC. They won the others by 9, 14, 8, 18, 10, 25 and 7 points. In the last few meetings at home vs. Duke they lost by 13 and 5 and won by 24. They did not play the Blue Devils at home last year. Clemson did lose early in the year at home to Coastal Carolina by 1 and to Charleston by 3 but the Tigers should be focused vs. the Blue Devils off a loss.
In review, Clemson has lost just two home ACC games in the last two years and that was by 2 to UNC and by 13 to Duke. Clemson did lose Jerai Grant and Demontez Stitt from last year's team.
Clemson's scorers:
Young 13 Smith 10.7 Booker 10.6 Jennings 9
Duke has the Plumlees, Curry, Dawkins, Kelly and Rivers. This looks to be a low scoring game and I like the home dog especially with the opening number of +8.5.

UNC has struggled playing at Florida State as they only won by 2 last year in Tallahassee and back in 2009 when they won the national title they won at FSU by 3. FSU is a good defensive team and has and is led in scoring by Miller who is from Charlotte, NC. Being from the same state as the UNC Tar Heels he should be motivated. Look for him to play well as he has scored 15 or more in the last 4 games.

I hope to see this go up to 10 on Thursday. This looks to be a low scoring game. Virginia has lost just one game and won at LSU by 5 and at Oregon by 13. They play great defense under coach Tony Bennett. Duke hasn't played a great schedule at home and only won by 1 over Belmont as -11.5 favorites.
Last year (without Mike Scott who leads the team with 16.5 ppg) in the ACC on the road they won games by 14, 6 and 3 points and their losses were by 7, 2, 5, 3 and 16 (at Duke). All of the Cavalier players have played in Cameron Indoor Stadium. UVA actually led 31-25 at the half and then fell apart.

He has scored 12 and 16 points at Towson.
Julian Boatner scored 22 last year at Towson as he made 6 of 7 3-pointers. He only averages 6 ppg so maybe he will step up. W&M also won their in 2009 by 22 points but were led by David Schneider back then.
Britt, Rum and Rusthoven should add a few points for the Tribe.
Towson lost both CAA games at home by 9 to Northeastern and to George Mason by 12. They also lost by 4 at home to Maryland Balt-County. There should only be about 800 fans there so the crowd won't matter much.

Miami at UNC 9pm eastern (Tuesday Jan. 10, 2012) Miami +15.5
Miami just played at low scoring Virginia and lost by 52-51 as a 7.5 underdog. Miami has a veteran team that played UNC twice last year and only lost by 2 at the ACC tournament on a neutral floor and lost at home by 3 points on a 3-pointer by Harrison Barnes. They haven't played at UNC's Dean Dome in several years.
In their last few ACC road games, Miami has lost games by reasonable margins of 11, 6, 4, 2 , 7 and 11 points. Miami's new coach (Jim Larranaga) used to be an assistant with Virginia.
Here are the Miami scorers:
Grant 13.9 (only 37% FG) Scott 13.2 Kadji 10.9 (54%) Johnson 10 Larkin 8
UNC has been at home for a long time playing games. They just beat Boston College by 23 as a 30 point favorite but the Eagles are young and expected for last place.
UNC doesn't shoot 3's well as starters Dexter Strickland has only one attempt and PG Marshall only averages 7 ppg. Their backups Hairston and Bullock can come in and score quickly.
UNC does get points from Henson, Barnes and Zeller and continue to win at home as they have now won 26 games in a row at home but they have had some close ones. They beat Wisconsin by 3, beat Long Beach State by 6 and Appalachian State by 15. UNC won home ACC games last year by 3, 10, 20, 20, 14, 2, 11 and 14 points.

Fordham at UMass 7pm eastern (Thursday, Jan. 5) over 142
UMass is short for the University of Massachusetts. They are undefeated at home and led by point guard Chaz Williams at 15 ppg and 5.8 assists. UMass is the 6th fastest team in the NCAA at 74 possessions per game. These two teams have played in last 4 years and here are the scores:
77-73 (150) in 2011 78-76 (154) in 2010 91-68 (159) in 2009 76-72 (148) in 2008
All four have reached 148 or more. Fordham has played overs in 7 of 8 vs. the Atlantic 10 while UMass has played overs in 7 of 9 home games.
Fordham is led by Gaston at 16 points per game. Hopefully, the Rams can keep up as 12 point underdogs and add to our total.

Missouri at ODU 7pm eastern
Rot#844 ODU +9 (7pm)
Missouri comes in undefeated at 12-0 but have yet to play a true road game. They are only 16-37 ATS in their last 53 on the road. Let's look at their road games last year as they started 15-1 and their only loss was to Georgetown by 3 in OT).
won by 4 at Texas Tech lost by 11 at Nebraska lost by 10 at Kansas St. won by 6 at Iowa State lost by 17 at Kansas lost by 6 at Okla State lost by 13 at Texas lost by 2 at Colorado won by 3 at Oregon
ODU lost badly (81-58) at Missouri last year after being off for a week but played them two years ago on a neutral court in Texas and only lost 66-61. Frank Haith is the new coach at Missouri.
ODU is 6-6 and played Kentucky close. It was tied with a few minutes to go and they lost by 10 points. They lost at Richmond in OT, lost at Central Fla by 8 and to Fairfield by 8 on a neutral floor. ODU will be familiar with the Tigers and not get in a run and gun game.
ODU recently had Hill and Ross become eligible and has given them some offensive players to help their lack of scoring. Trey Iliadis has only made 34% from the field and Bazemore is just 35%. Here are the ODU scorers who should be motivated after the bad loss at Missouri last year.
Bazemore 13 Cooper 10.8 Batten 10 Wright 9.5 Iliadis 7 Hill/Ross 6
Here are Missouri's averages:
Denmon 18.7 English 15 Ratcliffe 14 (from the area near ODU) shoots an amazing 76% from the field! Dixon 13 Pressey 9
I like ODU +10 based on their solid defense, being at home with 8000+ fans, playing a good team that they have played before and looking for revenge for an ugly loss last year. Add the fact that Missouri has struggled on the road in the past and this is their first road game.

Southern Illinois has only player scoring over 10 ppg and that is Seck at 13.1 ppg. The next highest is at 9.4. SIU is 19-5-2 ATS in the last 26 meetings but this play goes against them and their Hawaii Hangover after playing in the islands and all the travel involved.

CFU struggles at the line as they were 8/20 and 13/27 and 8/23 in three games. They are led by Marcus Jordan, son of Michael. Jeff Jordan is also on the team.
ODU lost vs. Fairfield last week in an ugly game. ODU did win at Northeastern before that so I expect ODU to bounce back and stay within 5 points with Bazemore, Cooper and Wright playing well. Blaine Taylor is a good coach and this should be low scoring.
Take ODU.

Cal-Santa Barbara +8
UCSB plays at Washington on Friday night at 10pm. The opening line is 8.5. UCSB is 5-2 and both losses were close overtime losses at home to UNLV and San Diego State. They did win at UNLV last year and only lost at Oregon by 2 last year. They won the Big West title last year and have plenty of experience. They are led by 6'5" senior Orlando Johnson at 22 ppg, 7 rb's and 42% from 3's.
Johnson 22 ppg Nunnally 18 Serna 11.5 Boswell 8
Washington is 4-4 but they have lost 3 of 4. They travelled to Madison Square Garden in New York and are now back home after losses to good programs like Marquette and Duke. The Huskies are a tough team but are just 3-7 ATS in the last 10 home games. They only beat FAU (77-71) by 6 points at home Here are their scorers:
Boss 16 Wilcox 16 Wroten 14 Gant 9
UCSB did make it to the NCAA tourney last year and lost to Florida so they are used to playing good teams. Take UCSB.

UC-Irvine at LSU (8pm) under 138.5
LSU has played 24 unders and only 8 overs in the last 32 at home and 42-17 unders overall.
The last few games for LSU:
Boise ST. 64-45 (109) at Rutgers 55-50 (110) at Houston 59-58 (117) So Alabama 69-69 (138) Ga Tech 59-50 (109)
Cal Irvine's last road game was 58-48 (106 points) at Wyoming and an earlier game at San Jose State was 51-50 (101 points).
I am hoping that LSU will control the pace as they are at home and are a big favorite. I have seen 138.5 at a book but 137.5 is at Olympic.

3* Charleston -3
Tennessee (3-5) travels to Charleston (7-1) to play Bobby Cremins' team who won last year at Tennessee by 91-78. Last year's team had Andrew Goudelock who was a scoring machine. They do have:
Wiggins 17.5 ppg Lawrence 13.5 Wiedeman 13.5 Stitt 10
They did win at Clemson by 3 and beat UMass by 20 earlier this year. Tennessee has 4 new starters from last year and just lost at home to Austin Peay by 74-70 as a 14 point favorite. They have now lost 3 in a row (lost to Oakland by 8 and at home to Pitt by 5). They did beat ULM by 23, beat UNC Greensboro by 29 and beat Chaminade by 26.
The only game that Charleston lost was to Central Florida in the Bahamas. CFU is led by Micheal Jordan's son Marcus. Charleston did play an overtime game vs. Chattanooga.
Tennessee may bounce back after a bad home loss. They should be motivated but Charleston is at home and a good team.

Iona should dictate the pace and I think we see a game in the upper 140's or 150-152 points. Iona has Glover and Scott Machado at point guard. Richmond just played at VCU in a slow game and will run and gunwith the Gaels in a nice action filled game.

Central Michigan at Minnesota #545/#546 9pm eastern (Dec. 13, 2011) under 129
Minnesota has lost just one game and are playing at home. They lost their best player (Trevor Mbakwe) to an injury a few weeks ago. Since the injury they have focused more on defense. Let's look at their last 4 home games:
St. Peters 116 App St 126 USC 95 Va Tech 113
Let's look at Central Michigan as they have played 21 unders and 6 overs in their last 27 road games. Let's look at some recent CMU games. The Charlotte game went into overtime and made it into the 150's.
Tenn St 122 Temple 160 Dartmouth 113 Buffalo 114 Pepperdine 124 Char 122 (before OT)
There were two other CMU games that were high scoring but Minnesota is the better team and playing at home so they should dictate the pace. The Minnesota Golden Gophers are led by Ralph Sampson Jr., whose dad is a former college Player Of The Year at Virginia.

Portland at Oregon #743/#744 10pm
pick: Portland +14.5 Take the road team +14 in this late game. Oregon is a solid team but are dwon from last year. They beat Fresno State by 4, lost at BYU by 14, beat UTEP by 5, beat SMST by 25 and beat Eastern Washington by 8.
Portland is a decent team and should only be a 12 point dog as they stayed within 8 at Denver. My guess is Oregon wins by 8 to 12 points and Portland covers.

Siena has played 35 unders and 16 overs in the last 51 at home. Take under!
