Taking PENS on the PL tonight. Man. We had the Preds in Game 1 and if you told me we were giving up 12 shots on goal I would have thought we would be coasting to a nice win. Pens look very good right now. And even though I did like the Preds as a nice long-shot to upset the defending champs, I think that is an uphill battle - The cream looks like it is rising to the top as the Preds looked every bit an 8 seed vs the Stanley Cup Champs. I think Pens offense really gets going tonight. 12 shots a period, not for an entire game is more of a likely outcome as this series progresses. 4* PL Money PITT PENGUINS

Baltimore counters with Tillman who isn't that sharp lately (5.87 ERA last 3) and for the year batters are hitting nearly .300 off him. 4* Money Maker NY YANKEES

Taking the ROCKIES here. These guys just keep on winning. First place in the NL West. They are now 18-8 on the road and have an average home mark! The old days, they would feast at home while being destroyed away. So here they are favored of Wainwright. As I have said in previous write ups, this guy is on the downward side of his career. The numbers don't lie. I will give him 2 nice starts in a row. But even giving up 1 run in 13.1 innings, I can't overlook a 6.37 ERA and .356 BAA and near 1.90 WHIP his first 7 starts. At 35, with 1800 innings logged on his arm, a pair of good starts is an out-lier for me, not the norm. STL treated us well in LA, but now they are heading to the Rockies. Colorado has cashed 7 of 10 and 15 of their last 21. (not counting Friday contest) - Freeland has a 2.63 ERA his last 7 starts (4-1) and holding hitters to .221 over that span. He has been solid at home so I think he gets it done tonight. 4* Money Maker COLORADO ROCKIES

Going OVER the total here. Arroyo and his 6.75 ERA come into Philly where the 10-4-2 OVER their last 16 (not counting last night). Not that I ever had the talent of this 40 year old, but come on Bronson, you are throwing mid 80s fastballs to MLBers. Not going to be pretty. He has a road ERA of 8.05 in 4 starts. .313 BAA and a WHIP of 1.84 - The series has gone 15-5-1 over last 21 in Philly. Again. I am writing this prior to the Friday game so the trend is going to be wrong. Eickhoff has a mid 4 ERA at home and doesn't do anything fancy. He is going to give up hits and runs. He has give up at least 4 runs in 4 of his last 5 starts. Phillies have gone over in 4 of his last 5, while the Reds have gone over in 6 of Arroyo's last 7 road games. 4* Total Money OVER Reds/Phillies

He has a 5.30 road ERA and a WHIP of 1.98 with hitters slapping him at a .329 clip. Sox on a 9-4-2 over run. Pelfrey couldn't get out of the 5th back in April vs the Tigers. Going OVER the total here. Friers has given up 17 HRs already this year in just 42 innings. That is an epic pace! He has pitched to a better ERA at home, 3.50, than on the road, 6.38 - That being said, I think he still gives up 4-5 runs tonight. Not that I am huge sabermetrics type capper. I like my WHIP and BAA, but in the case of Friers, I have to note his extremely high FIP. It is off the charts bad. And let's not sell Verlander short. Clearly the mileage is taking its toll on his arm. He had a great year last year, but is slow out of the gate. He was limited the year before, so maybe we are seeing some arm fatigue early. We know that the Astros can hit. And giving free passes will help us get some more runs on the board tonight. Verlander is half-way home to last years walk total. Final thought at we toss in some Verlander road splits. How about 2-3 in 5 starts with an ERA of 7.24 - A 1.79 WHIP adds to my thinking we see a 5-5 game by the 4th. 5* Best Bet OVER Tigers/Astros

That is the kid who I think shows up tonight vs Lackey. And Lackey hasn't been all that perfect at home either. 1-2 with a 4+ ERA and opposing hitters are at a .290 clip against him. Taking the ROCKIES here. We cashed nicely with the Reds RL yesterday, but are on the opposite side this afternoon. And with good reason. Arroyo sports a career ERA of 5 vs the Rockies. Those 13 starts (15 games) were when he was actually a major league starter pitcher - not the batting practice fodder he is now. He has a 6.31 ERA on the year, though pitching much better at home 4.84 ERA as to the road 8.05. Not sure how many times I have said an ERA near 5 is good in my life! On the opposite side of his career and with opposite stats, rookie Kevin Freeland comes in, for me, as the play today. A 3.13 ERA on the year, 2.42 on the road in 4 starts. Not a fan of his K/BB ratio 29K/22BB and I would like to see that improve drastically. But he does get a lot of ground-ball outs which will help in this park. 4* Money Maker COLORADO ROCKIES

And yes, his road ERA is 3.45 as opposed to 7.41 at home. - Finally.. Archer at home. 2-0 this year 2.94 ERA in 5 starts. Last year in 16 starts he had a 2.65 ERA. Granted, he went 3-10. These guys they are trotting out don't last more than 5 innings. De Jong's last 3 starts - 5 innings 6 earned. 6 innings 1 earned. 2.2 innings 6 earned. 8.56 ERA over those 13+ innings. Taking the CUBS here. Well of course our Monday play gets rained out and then the Rockies win Game 1 of a day-night double header. That is just the kind of unlucky roll we have been on. Marlins up 5-1, give up 5 top 8 and crush our ML and RL payday. Just a bad run of games right now. But that ends here with Hendricks on the hill. I think people have forgotten that he led the league in ERA last year. A bit of a bumpy April giving up 11 earned in his first 3 starts. But he has been very good in his last 3 starts totally just 2 total runs in 17+ innings. What can we say about Marquez. 3 starts. He allowed 8 runs in 4 innings to that Nats at home. Zero in 6 at Arizona. And then 5 more in 6 innings to the DBacks a week later. Obviously, he has trouble at home. 4* Money Maker CHICAGO CUBS

Taking the TWINS here. Not sure how much money you can make in the long run backing teams that have lost 28-7 their last 2 games. But there is zero chance that I am on the Mike Pelfrey bandwagon. Can't even believe this game is basically a PK. Pelfrey has a BA Against of over .300 for the last 5 straight years. Granted, he has been basically Chris Sale for the Sox this year with a .268 BAA! But come on. I will say that betting is never as easy at it looks. And looking at this match-up, this screams to me easy money. Hector Santiago is off to a nice start. I am sure he will regress. But I think the Twins really want to erase that Red Sox series. What better way than to tee off on a batting practice pitcher. 4* Money Maker MINNESOTA TWINS

Taking the RANGERS and going PUCK LINE for the payday. I won't ever be laying over 150/160. Not on the ice. Not in MLB. I would rather pass totally than take a big fave. I can say that I thought for a brief moment of taking the big dogs here. But, the way the Rangers played out home in games 3+4, plus with them giving up a ton of goals in Game 5, point me a big home win tonight. They scored a pair of 'easy' 4-1 wins at MSG. Ottawa clearly hasn't played well here. They squeaked out a pair of OT wins at home, plus a 2-1 win. Rangers the better team in my eyes so far this series. I will look for them to force a Game 7. 4* PL Money NY RANGERS

Taking the MARLINS here. I am sure the average baseball looks at this and thinks, Who is Dan Straily? Adam Wainwright is great. Well, the guy is 35 now. Off the worse year of his career. He had a great run for 2007-20014. A pair of 19 and 20 win seasons. But he has struggled so far this year. He sports a 7+ ERA on the road. 27 hits allowed in 13 innings and you have a .422 BA Against with a WHIP of 2.27. Yikes. I know that Miami is slumping a bit. Nothing better to get the bats going than to face a struggling pitcher. Straily does have a 4.65 ERA on the year, but his home stats are pretty solid. A 2.87 ERA in 3 starts with a .132 BA Against and 1.09 WHIP. We'll grab the small home fave and maybe sprinkle some RL also. 4* Money Maker MIAMI MARLINS

Taking the GIANTS here. Hate taking a team on a losing streak. Especially a team that is having trouble scoring, and blowing leads. But I think that Sammy is the call here. Off a pair of solid starts, he seems to have turned a corner off a rough start. Wheeler is a guy who hasn't pitched since 2014. This is his 6 start. He has gotten out of the 6th inning once. Obviously, he is still working his way to full strength. A little road warrior action tonight at Citi Field. 4* Money Maker SF GIANTS
