Taking the PIRATES here. We had a couple nice RL games on Thursday night, and I nearly pulled another +160 on Pittsburgh tonight. First, the Braves. They just lost red-hot Matt Kemp. That is a something this lineup will feel for sure. And then their is RA Dickey. Yes, we cashed with another old-timer, Bartolo Colon the other night. But I don't have that kind of faith in the old knuckle-baller. 21 runs in 23 spring training innings. I get that you are 42 and really have nothing to prove. But come on RA! Pirated counter with a youngster who I really like in Kuhl. His .185 BA Against and 1.02 WHIP were pretty solid in spring ball. His walks alarm me a bit. But I think the Pirates offense can offset him giving up a couple runs here. 4* Money Maker PITT PIRATES

Taking the PADRES here. This is a straight up fade train on Matt Cain. The guy hasn't been good in 5 years. 2012 ended a great run for him. Let's forget for a second his horrible spring (7.82 ERA .343 BA Against). At 28, he finished up a string of 8 straight 200+ innings. That was bookend by 190 and 184. Is it shocked that at 30 he had chips removed from his elbow? Or that he hurt his forearm? Or his hammy has been DLing him? Why now after 3 years of injury is he going to pitch like it's 2013? Yes. It is ugly taking Perdomo and his 5+ ERA from last year. And, yes, like you, I look at the SD lineup and say, Who? But the youngster was sharp this spring. For whatever it's worth. Padres have been beating SF of late. 8 of 10 overall and 5 of the last 7 here at home. Both teams off losses as LA hammered SD early 10-2 (we cashed on the over), while Arizona (another winner we played) took care of the Giants late 9-3. Sign me up for the small home pups. 4* Money Maker SAN DIEGO PADRES

Taking the DIAMONDBACKS here. Nearly just went +185 on the RL. This Giants team gets a lot of love. I get MadBum and Cueto at the top of a rotation will bring joy to many fans. But it is a drop-off after that. Enter Samardzija. For all his hype, he had a career high 12 wins last year. 12! Guy is an average pitcher at best. He gets shelled every spring. Now. I am a bit biased since I do like me some Robbie Ray. Kid is young, and can strike people out. Obviously got into trouble with the walks last year. Just think this Arizona team can hit a bit more than SF. 4* Money Maker ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS

Taking the RAYS, again. Obviously not sold on these NYY starters. Pineda no different. He had an ERA near 5 on the road last year. Rays beat him up pretty good to the tune of 0-3 7.30 ERA last season. Cobb had a pair of nice sub 3 ERA season before getting hurt and missing 2015. He was shelled by NY in his 2nd to last start in September last year. But I think that had more to do with fatigue. He had pitched 3 solid games coming off that TJ surgery. A full off-season of work should have him rounding into form. 4* Money Maker TB RAYS

I didn't think Minny would be very good this year, and they scored an opening day win on Monday busting out against the bullpen. I think the bullpen does not implode this afternoon. Kennedy will never be that 21-4 2.88 ERA guy he was in 2011. But the guy K's a man an inning. He had a very nice spring. At this price, worth the shot. Royals to me, are the better team. Can't see them getting stymied again (3 hits). Hector Santiago gives up hits, and walks guys. Everyone at 1-1 by the 4pm. KC 12-4 last 16 in Minny. 4* Money Maker KC ROYALS

Just a lot more confident in Arrieta than I am in Wainwright. Guy has had a great career, but last year he clearly showed he wasn't 100% back. And if spring is any indication, things will look tough here in 2017. 7.78 ERA - .338 BA against and 1.73 WHIP. Yikes. Cubs will muster runs tonight. Arrieta went 11-3 on the road last year. His 3.91 ERA was his lowest in 4 years. The guy has a ton of innings on him. He will be a 5+ innings guy and someone I will look to fade, especially at home when he will be a favorite. Odorizzi had a great 2nd half last year going 7-1 2.71 ERA after the All-Star break. He went 2-1 2.29 ERA .71 WHIP vs NY last season. I think the Rockies have talent and can at least be a .500 club. Guerra came out of nowhere to post a 2.81 (9-3) ERA last year. But his spring has been awful. And he is no spring-chicken as he is 32 after finally getting to the show. 25 y.o Gray is looking to build off a solid campaign. And he has a nice offense behind him. Story, CarGo, Blackmon, Arenado. Taking the GIANTS here. Have to say, thought I was sitting pretty with the Cubs last night on our free pick video. That being said, who would have thought the Cubs would be the blowing late games? Didn't see that one coming. But I think that San Fran evens things up tonight. I know Lackey has a very good post-season pedigree. The numbers don't lie. They are what they are in the playoffs. But I am more concerned with his road splits. Pedestrian at best this year on the road. 4-4 in 13 starts and a 4.37 ERA. A far cry from the 2.32 ERA and .99 WHIP he put up at home. Moore comes in a winner in 4 of his last 5 starts. Noted, the Dodgers crushed him for 6 runs in an inning back on the 21st, but he rebounded a week later against them 1 run ball over 8. In those 4 other starts, he went 27.2 innings giving up 6 earned striking out 30 with 5 walks. We will be getting a Game 5. 4* Money Maker SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS

Taking the DODGERS here. I know that Kershaw doesn't have the best post season numbers. In fact, they are pretty bad overall. 2-6 4.59 ERA in 13 games, 10 starts. Maybe he is just worn down by the time October comes around. He was on the shelf and has a minimum of 10 starts off his arm. That can only help here. He gave up 2 earned in 21 innings in September after coming off the DL. Scherzer also with pedestrian numbers in post-season. 4-3 3.73 ERA in 12 games, 10 starts. I can't say you go wrong grabbing him as a dog. The guy struck out 284 hitters with a .97 WHIP and .199 BA against. But he has gives up HRs and that could be costly here. Nats will be without Ramos, and that is a .307 hitter with 22HRs out of the lineup. Harper I think is injured, or at least has nagging issues the entire season. Daniel Murphy and his .347 average is hampered with an upper leg injury. I think facing Kershaw, and this LA staff in general, you want your best as close to healthy as possible. Seager, Turner, Pederson, Grandal all hit more than 25HRs so I won't be shocked if one, or 2 go yard tonight. I think LA wins this series and has a good shot at a World Series appearance. 4* Money Maker LA DODGERS

Taking the WHITE SOX here. Sox streaking, Rays free falling. Tampa has dropped 6 straight, 9 of 10 and 10 of 12. Archer looking to avoid 20 losses on the year, but brings a 5.54 road ERA to the hill tonight. He has pitched better in September, but at this price, I will still fade him. Sox will want to get to .500 and avoid a losing season. Jose Quintana gives us a great shot tonight. You can nearly set in stone his games. The guy is good for 200+ innings and a low 3 ERA. We will get about 7 from him tonight with limited run damage. His home splits are very good as he has gone 7-4 2.76 ERA with a .93 WHIP. Chicago 5-2 last 7 in the series and get the sweep tonight. 4* Money Maker CHICAGO WHITE SOX

Taking the PHILLIES here. Will probably be playing these guys for the series especially if we are getting big odds like this. Mets don't have some murder's row lineup. They aren't going to club their way to 9-2 wins or something. And frankly, this franchise has a history of falling apart as September ends. Hats off to the manager though. You lose half of your young studs out of the rotation and half your infield, you should be seen as having a good year having them right in the hunt for a wild-card. Phillies would love to hamper the Mets play-off chances, and I think they will this weekend. 4* Money Maker PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES

Taking the GIANTS here. Have to grab Cueto at this price. Guy has a 2.66 ERA last 7 starts. 16-5 2.86 ERA on the year. 9-2 2.92 ERA on the road. A 1.06 WHIP on the year. Plus a 2.93 career ERA vs LAD in 12 starts and 1.69 his last 3 starts vs the Dodgers. The San Fran bullpen has blown 30 games after giving up Bum's 1-0 nothing gem. I expect Cueto to go the distance here. Giants are 12-4 his last 16 road starts. Rich Hill is a great story at 36 having the year he is having. I can't knock anything on him. This is a pure value play on a team that is a good, veteran club, desperate for a win. That being said, I think we have the small edge on the mound and the Giants are clinging to the wild-card by a thread. 4* Money Maker SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS

Taking the CARDINALS here. STL plays a lot better on the road (45-30) than at home (33-41) and will need to continue those winning ways if they want to push for a wild-card spot. C-Mart fits the bill as his road stats, 8-1 2.53 fit the bill perfectly. Cards have won 20 of his last 27 road starts and 5 of his last 6 overall. They have won 6 of the last 8 vs the Rockies. Colorado 2-5 in Anderson's last 7 starts. Looking at his numbers, he has good ones at home. But has been up and down his last 6 starts. A big come from behind win in 10 innings and I am sure they are having a blast tonight. I think it is safe to say we a couple guys sitting today. Davies has been sharp of late pitching to a 1.93 ERA in September and have given up only 7 runs in his last 4 starts spanning 26.1 innings with 27 strikeouts. Jake Arriera. Taking the MARINERS here. I have been critical of King Felix most of the season. That being said, this Seattle team is red-hot at the moment. 8 straight wins, 9 of their last 10 and they have won 7 of the last 8 that Felix has started. Astros have dropped 6 of 10 and are now 3.5 back in the wild-card looking up at Seattle. McHugh has good numbers vs the Mariners in his career. But I can't overlook his 6+ road ERA in 15 starts this season nor that opposing hitters are raking .322 against him in 76 innings. The 1.64 WHIP leads me to believe that Hernandez will get some run support tonight. 4* Money Maker SEATTLE MARINERS

Lester has a 1.85 ERA since the break. He is 15-4 2.61 ERA on the year. But he hasn't been as dominate on the road. A 3.40 ERA isn't ugly by any stretch, but he can be hit. Let's not sell Houston short. This is another young, good ball club. Joe Musgrove is a youngster who clearly likes pitching at home. Totally different splits. A .54 ERA in 3 games with a .78 WHIP and .188 BAA with 21Ks in 16 an a third innings. Both teams have dropped 2 straight coming into this series. Cubs 7-3 L10, 'Stors 6-4. His road splits are great coming at 9-2 1.91 ERA .203 BAA and 1.90 WHIP. Tough to knock King Felix. Guy has had a great career. But he seems a bit down this season. A little banged up. 104Ks in 121 innings (19 starts). I just think the innings are getting to him. On a side note. Do you know he has won more than 15 games just 3 times? Taking the RANGERS here. So, I can hear it now. King Felix is a Pk against some guy Martin Perez! Unload. Well. Let's dig a little deeper. Right off the bat Perez has been excellent at home. 7-2 2.84 in his 14 starts. Rangers 9-1 in his last 10 home starts. Texas is 5-2 in his last 5 starts vs the Mariners. Heading into last night, Seattle was a on a 1-6 slide here in Texas. The M's have been in a bit of slide lately but you can't play Hernandez. He is 3-0 his last 4 starts with a 1.86 ERA last 29 innings. But I have to use my gut here and see go opposite of probably everyone but Perez's family and die hard Rangers fans. Taking the YANKEES here. You guys now that I rarely take favorites in general, and road faves even less. But I have to think we have the value and edge with Tanaka on the hill. He has a road ERA of 2.09 in 13 starts (6-3), throwing darts his last 2 starts 14.2 innings 0 runs, 11 hits, 1 BB and 14Ks. That is his only walk of the month in 34 innings (34Ks) to go with a .91 WHIP. I am not sold on Volquez last start being a something special. I mean really. 5 innings 0 earned but 2 runs. 3 hits. But when you walk a guy and give up a HR, you give up runs. He has a 5.81 ERA on this month. Opposing hitters batting .313 against him this month, .275 on the year. 1.59 August WHIP, 1.44 year. Taking the ROYALS here. Ok. As I am doing this write up I do have the Marlins over the KC here on Thursday night. No matter the outcome, KC is either going to be 15-3 or 14-4 their last 18 games. Ian Kennedy a big part of the run as he posted a .67 August ERA in 4 starts. A .85 WHIP along with a .170 BA against goes a long way in producing wins. Now. Disclaimer alert. I do have Steven Wright in my fantasy league! That being said. I normally fade guys coming off the DL. Even a young knuckle-baller. The kid has a 3.01 ERA on the year and is 13-5. So he isn't some stiff. But he hasn't been as sharp at home. Yes he is 7-1, but with an ERA over 4. He had an ERA over 6 in July before pitching a SHO before hitting the DL. Again. I really can't know the youngsters season or stats. I just have to take the value on a red hot pitcher and team against a pitcher coming back from shoulder inflammation. 4* Money Maker KC ROYALS

Taking the MARLINS here. I get that KC had run off 9 straight win. But that came to an end last night. I have seen on several occasions teams lose b2b after a long win streak comes to an end. Won't be easy going for the Royals as Tom Koehler has a 1.62 ERA over his last starts. Florida on the other hand gets to tee off on Edinson Volquez. I'll be honest. Volquez is what he is. He has never approached what he did back in 2008 (17-6 206Ks). He has had 2 nice years here in KC 13-7 3.05 and 13-9 3.55. But he has fallen off a cliff this year (5.04 ERA) and has been brutal on the road (6.18 ERA). So as I mentioned the road ERA is bad. Opposing hitters are slapping him at nearly a .290 BA. A 1.64 WHIP assures us that the Marlins will have ample scoring opportunities. His 7.17 August ERA, .388 BAA and 1.78 WHIP leads me think that KC's 9-0 run, will quickly turn to 9-2. 4* Money Maker MIAMI MARLINS

James Taillon has been solid on the year, and steady both home and away posting identical 3 ERAs. He will give the Pirates 6 innings and not be flashy. Fister is pretty much the same kind of pitcher. 8-3 3.36 on the road this year. But for the difference is the hitting. Astros are just locked in right now. Taking the ASTROS here. Ok. I did back the Orioles last night. And as of this writing at 1030pm, they are getting 8-1 and sitting in a delay. That being said, this is a play based on our pitcher. This kid Musgrave has looked good beating both Texas and Toronto. 7 innings in both games, 3 earned and 13 Ks. He did go 4.1 in a relief spot and struck out 8. A .185 BA against and .76 WHIP facing the Blue Jays for 11+ innings and the Rangers for 7 more is pretty impressive. Now Gausman has a nice home split, 3-1 2.39 ERA in 8 starts. But is just 5-15 vs teams with winning records. He faced Houston back in May and gave up 4 earned in 5 innings. 4* Money Maker HOUSTON ASTROS

Taking the TIGERS here. I am doing this game at 2pm on Wednesday. Why? A pure scheduling fade of Boston. Had a makeup game Monday. Then Tuesday and Wednesday night games in Baltimore. This is a quick turn around for them. 1pm start. What time they getting to the stadium 11? When did they get in last night? Midnight at the earliest. Just a bad spot for them. Boyd has a 2.08 August ERA in 2 starts, a .174 BA against and 1.08 WHIP. A favorable home split adds to his value. Clay Bucholz looks like he will be getting the ball for Boston. Wonderful. I will happily fade away on this guy and his 5.34 road ERA. Bullpen, starting. Doesn't matter. He will give up 3-4 runs in the first couple innings. Take out the 2 years he went 28-8 and he is 48-52 in his career. And his ERA goes up from 4 to 4.64. The guy is mediocre at best. 5* Best Bet DETROIT TIGERS

Taking the ORIOLES here. What am I missing? David Price has been average at best this year. 10-8 4.29 ERA. A 4.34 road ERA, .278 BA against. I know the Sox can hit. I get it. But the O's have some sluggers. Also, a guy on the hill in Chris TIllman who is 15-4 on the year. Baltimore is 20-5 when he pitches. 8-1 here at home. 10-3 2.74 ERA in 19 career starts vs Red Sox. 4* Money Maker BALTIMORE ORIOLES Looks like Dylan Bundy is making the start as Tillman is pushed back. Can actually get the O's at +125 now. Bundy has been just as good since joining the rotation. He has been really at the top of his game posting a 1.93 August ERA in 3 starts with 19KS and 4 walks in 18+ innings. A tidy WHIP of .64 makes keeping Baltimore in play tonight easy.

Taking the PIRATES here. I had the Pirates last night, and as I type this, we are tied at 2-2. So, I will say that the Pirates have been the better team of late 7 of 10. As I wrote the same words for last nights game. But I can't back Cain. This isn't 2012. He has an ERA nearing 6 since he came back off the DL. a 5.12 home ERA in 10 starts and opposing hitters are roping him for an average over .300. Plus a 1.61 WHIP. Nova isn't confusing anyone with Cy Young. But he does have a 2.92 ERA in his 2 Pittsburgh starts. 12+ 4 earned 7 Ks and Zero walks. 4* Money Maker PITT PIRATES

Taking the PIRATES here. Pitt playing well winning 5 of 6 and 7 of their last 10, while SF continues to struggle dropping 6 of 10 and are just 9-19 their last 28. Pitt is 6-1 last 7 with Taillon on the hill. The rookie has been pretty good going at least 6 innings in 8 of his 10 starts. He is pitching great here in August with a .64 ERA in 14 innings, a .184 BAA and WHIP of .86. 10ks and just 3 walks in those 14 innings of work won't make it any easier for the Giants who have struggled to score. Samardzja doesn't do anything special. And I think people forget how good this Pirates club was last year. They are on the uptick, while SF has been on a downward trend the last month + . 4* Money Maker PITT PIRATES

Taking the MARINERS here. Have to grab the hot team winners of 8 of 10. Plus, we get King Felix on the hill. Granted, he has put some mileage on his arm and showing signs of age with his numbers. But a .220 BAA is still respectable enough to slow down the Angels. These guys are wasting Trout's prime years with zero pitching staff or lineup help. Halos have dropped 10 in a row. I know that Hernandez doesn't have the greatest numbers vs the Angels. But this team is not near as good as the teams of past. Mariners are now just 2 back of the wild card. Ricky Nolasco? He has a 5.14 ERA on the year. Last year in 9 games 6.75. 2014 5.38 in 27 starts. See a trend here. The guy is bad. 4* Money Maker SEATTLE MARINERS
