DMack's NCAAB Play of the Day is on the Virginia Tech Hokies Virginia Tech has won six straight in the series including the last three meetings on this court. The dog is 5-1 L6 in the series despite my thinking that the wrong team might be favored here. Both teams are struggling, Virginia Tech having lost three straight and G Tech just 1-4 in its L5 but ... at the end of the day, like the sharpshooting Hokies who can fill it up and depend on their outside shooting for better than 40% of their points. Virginia Tech 68-60.

DMack's NCAAB Play of the Day is on the Idaho Vandals Sac State was an early ATS darling covering 9 of their first 10 games but the Big Sky has not been that kind. The Hornets are yet to win on the road but are 4-1 at home with the lone loss coming to Big Sky leader Eastern Washington on Saturday. Idaho is 1-8 in the Sky, 0-4 on the road but all four losses are by five points or less. Neither team scores a lot of points, Sac-town averaging 54 ppg. in it's Big Sky losses. Idaho has won 4 of 5 in the series and should be a handful for the slumping (1-4 L5) home team.

DMack NCAAB Power Pack winner is on the Yale Bulldogs Bullet Analysis: Yale looks to be head and shoulders the best team in the Ivy and will be a tough out in the first weekend of the Big Dance if they get there. The Bulldogs are 9-1 L10 and just beat Brown 70-56 last Friday, knocking down 10 of their 24 treys. Yale is also 10-1 L11 in the series, No.3 in the country in FG% defense, and facing a Bear team that's 3-7 L10 with just one win all year inside the RPI top 100 and that being Rhode Island. Even on the road, hard to see Yale not winning by 10+.

DMack's NCAAB Play of the Day is on the Fairfield Stags Fairfield is a veteran bunch that plays a slow deliberate pace and hasn't shot the ball well early on. They've faced tough early but have rebounded to win three of their last four against their own kind. Niagara is 2-9 overall and has lost six straight with their wins over Norfolk State and Colgate. The Purple Eagles FG defense in No.343 (out of 352) in the country and have dropped 7 of 9 in the series. Fairfield wins this by double digits.

DMack's NCAAB Play of the Day is on the St Mary's Gaels St Mary's made a concerted effort to improve its non-conference schedule after getting snubber in the Dance the last couple of years. Not sure they accomplished that but they are 12-2 with the losses coming to Dayton and Winthrop. No shame there. The Gaels have won 8 of the L10 series meetings but did lose their last two visits here. San Francisco got off to a fast start at 6-0 but has slit their eight most recent games and lost in OT to Havard on Monday. Other than games against Gonzaga and BYU, St Mary's won't have much to hang its hat on the rest of the way so games like these (road wins) will be of paramount importance down the road.

DMack's NCAAB Play of the Day is on Furman The Furman Paladins are a solid program that generally represents itself well. The Paladins are 5-0 versus teams outside the RPI Top 200 and an OT loss to Auburn is an example of their quality. Furman has beaten VMI eight straight, including the last four meetings on this floor, all by 12+ points. The Keydets are awful and 2-9 against the No.332 (out of 352 teams) toughest schedule in the country and 0-3 versus the Top 100 with all losses by double-digits. Being a matinee and because Furman has not played in 12 days, this number opened up soft and took significant play on the overnight. Despite being road chalk here, still think Furman is a top play on a sketchy New Year's Day board and look to the Paladins to win by 20.

DMack NCAAB Subscriber Best Bet on the Gonzaga Bulldogs Bullet analysis: I should be ashamed of myself for putting this out there but not if we win and I will be betting this game. Detroit is a horrific college basketball team that is even more horrific if you look at the Titans ATS grades over the past two decades. The Zags should have most of this impost covered by the half and cruise to a 50-point win before bigger and better things.

The Tribe is 6-1 playing teams outside the RPI top 200 while Elon is No.328 in experience and hasn't played in eight days. William and Mary by 10-14.

DMack's NCAAB Play of the Day is on the Richmond Spiders Richmond is 10-2 and going to be one of your under-the-radar power mid-majors. The Spiders are smart, take care of the ball, and shoot the rock from downtown, No.14 from beyond the arc in the country. They are off a loss to a tough Radford teams but have won both true road games and own a quality win over Wisconsin. Bama hasn't played in 8 days which is actually a positive for them as they play at a breakneck pace. The Tide is just 2-4 versus top 100 teams with their best win over Furman. The Tides has some athletes but Richmond will not be intimidated and don't be surprised if the Spiders win straight up.

DMack NCAAB Power Pack winner Best Bet is on Hofstra Pride Hofstra has been a "go to" team for us and overall, we've done pretty well. The Dutchmen have won 7 of 9 and started the year as the No.5 most experienced team in the country and rarely go to their bench. Hofstra has beaten the Dollies in 5 of the L6 including by 9 in last year's CAA tournament. Further, Hofstra has won the last three meetings on this floor by 5-16-15. James Madison is 6-4 against the No.276 toughest schedule and doesn't score much if they are not hitting their threes and JM gets 40% of their offense from beyond the arc. Hofstra vets will be fuly aware, shut this down cold, and get easy points on long rebounds in transition.

DMack NCAAB Power Pack winner Best Bet is on Louisville Cardinals Kentucky is getting a lot of love, even after going 0-2 in Vegas over Christmas. The Cats are a young team as always but this bunch is just not as good as prior editions and will be a work in progress. Louisville is 11-1 and was the No.1 ranked team in the country before getting knocked off by Texas Tech. The Cards have had 11 days to prepare for this game after losing 5 of the L6 in the series including a 90-61 crush-shot loss on this floor two years ago. The Cards will be very salty here and win straight up by 8-10.
