DMack NHL Power Pack winner in the Detroit Red Wings The Canadiens are on a horrific start at 0-5 with a 4/19 goal differential. It doesn't matter who you play when you average less than a goal a game and the one thing this young Wings team does is score. Other than a 7-6 shootout with Tampa Bay, Detroit has done some good things on defense and the young goaltending has held up. Can't see Montreal a favorite vs. ANYONE in their current form and the Wings are not just a doormat at this point.

DMACK'S NHL PLAY OF THE DAY (6-1, 29-12 Runs) Two Pacific Division team headed in very different directions. VGK has so many injuries, you'l basically be seeing the Henderson Silver Knights plus a couple of the original Golden Misfits. Edmonton is a destroyer! 4-0 with a 19-10 goal differential. McDavid, Draisaitl, and Nugent-Hopkins are all looking at multi-point games and there is little Vegas can do about it. Absolutely floored when I saw this opening line. Wouldn't be shocked to see the Oilers favored at game time. Why wouldn't they be.

Four games (0-4, 3/15) in and the brass is already talking house cleaning and reportedly the locker room is no good. Carolina has only played two games (2-0, 9/5) and fresh as a daisy. The Canes have a much better roster and with multiple scoring options that will pepper the Canadiens net. Small price, nice price.

St Louis is healthy now and loaded for bear and ready to lay it on a team they don't particularly like. VGK has had a rash of early injuries including both their leading scorers, Mark Stone and Max Pacioretty. The Fortress will be under siege all night and the Knights don't have stonewall Marc-Andre Fleury to turn everything back. Wrong favorite here, St. Louis smokes the VGK!

The Ducks have upgraded their talent and had some preseason and early success playing stifling defense and getting good goaltending. First game on enemy ice against a similar type of team will give us a better picture of rolling with Anaheim in the future.

DMack's NHL Play of the Day is on the Vancouver Canucks The teams have split games this year. Vancouver has battled injuries of late but just picked up scoring forward Tyler Toffoli (18 G, 16 A) from the Kings in an effort to bolster their scoring. The Canucks have one of the strongest home ice advantages in the NHL with just 7 losses in regulation. Minnesota has struggled to a 10-17 (10-15-2) slate on enemy ice and will have the worst of it between the pipes tonight. Impossible to pass Vancouver at just 23 cents.

Sid the Kid has been on a tear since his return and the Penguins are right there with the Bruins as the best home ice team in the NHL with just five losses in regulation. The Maple Leafs are just a 50-50 proposition on the road and playing .500 hockey since the break. The Pens have a substantial advantage between the pipes and the 35 cent impost is impossible to pass up.

This is there third game in four nights after losses at Toronto and Montreal. Buffalo had a nice first half but appear to be destined to miss the playoffs again. They've been treading water (5-4-1) of late but have been a tough out on home ice where the club celebrates it's 50th anniversary season. The Sabres are off a nice road win at the Rangers in last and have the Red Wings on deck. San Jose is just 9-17 on the road and their -39 goal differential in the third worst in the league after Detroit and New Jersey.
