Indianapolis Colts:

The Colts fell just short of another Super Bowl victory last year. Peyton Manning and this team will certainly be hungry to get back to the big game, but this team does have some clear weaknesses. Still, this isn’t a team you ever want to count out, because they definitely know how to win.

Peyton Manning and the offense will obviously be good once again in 2010. When you have a connection of a Hall of Famer like Manning and a pro bowl wide reciever like Reggie Wayne, you’ll always get plenty of points. The aerial attack isn’t a problem at all with Wayne, Garcon, Collie, and Anthony Gonzalez all four on the outside this year. The question marks on the offense are the offensive line and the running game. The Colts managed to get all the way to the Super Bowl with the worst rushing attack in the NFL last year, but they would be much better served improving that in 2010. Donald Brown is a candidate to step up and provide the running game this team needs.

On defense the Colts have several holes, but they also have the best pair of pass rushing ends in the NFL in Freeney and Mathis. Plug in the newcomer Jerry Hughes for some plays and you have a trio of guys who will be in the opponents backfield constantly. The key to the defense may be the ability of Bob Sanders to stay healthy. When Sanders is out this defense becomes mediocre quickly. The Colts should be solid against the pass, but they’ll need to keep shoring up the run defense.

Houston Texans:

The Texans are a popular pick from many NFL experts to get into the playoffs for the first time in 2010. The team has plenty of talent, but they’ll have to avoid letdown games that have hurt them in the past.

Matt Schaub is the leader of the offense and he has proven he is solid. Andre Johnson may well be the best wide receiver in the NFL right now. Johnson runs amazing routes and his quickness is terrific. Owen Daniels is one of the best tight ends in football, and he is completely willing to catch balls over the middle of the field. The Texans offensive line is average, but they won’t wow anyone. The running game has been inconsistent and they’ll need to do better in 2010.

The Texans have a terrific run defense, and they probably have the best group of linebackers in the NFL when Brian Cushing comes back from his suspension. Ryans is a star in the making and Zac Diles is vastly underrated. Mario Williams is definitely a star at the defensive end spot, but Okoye has been a bit of a disappointment. The Texans will be great against the run, but they will struggle against the pass.

This Texans team appears to be building depth, which could definitely lead to their first playoff berth.

Colts vs. Texans Prediction:

My NFL Top Play of the Week is on the total in this game. I do believe the Colts should be the favorite in this one, but this has the potential to be the best game of the NFL’s opening weekend. Get the huge five star top play and all my other NFL picks for this weekend and crush the books! Let’s start the season off right!
