It will be Mike Vick starting at the quarterback spot for the Eagles in this one. Vick came in to relieve the injured Kevin Kolb last weekend and himself a very nice game. Yes he did run for over 100 yards, but he also looked very good throwing the football. The Eagles have found a terrific young running back in LeSean McCoy, and with Vick and McCoy in the backfield at the same time, the defense will have two star runners to watch out for at all times. On the outside the Eagles have Jackson and Maclin who are both terrific play makers. The offensive line will likely be the key to how well this offense can perform this year.
The Eagles defense is bolstered by a very strong defensive. Trent Cole, Brandon Graham, and Broderick Bunkley all do a great job pushing the offensive line back right at the snap. The linebackers will probably be without Stewart Bradley, but they are a solid group who should fare well against Detroit. The secondary isn’t spectacular, but they know the defensive scheme well.
Detroit:
The Lions lost the game last week against the Chicago Bears in heartbreaking fashion and they also lost their budding star at quarterback to a separated shoulder. Matt Stafford will miss this game and Shaun Hill will be the starter under center.
The Lions had serious trouble moving the football last week with Hill in the game, though it wasn’t all his fault. The recievers dropped a lot of passes and the offensive line didn’t perform well. Jahvid Best is going to get his chance to prove how electrifying he can be in the NFL as Detroit will likely run the ball and throw him more short passes in the weeks to come. Calvin Johnson will need to step up and provide a deep threat to keep the defense honest.
The Lions defense may not be great yet, but they are definitely improving. Suh will lead this defensive line to much bigger things over the next few years, and I expect them to be able to put more pressure on the quarterback because of the presence of Vanden Bosch as well. The secondary is a little weak, but they have shown the ability to force turnovers in bunches. The defense still has work to do, but they could surprise some people.
