Iowa

The Hawkeyes of Iowa surprised many people last year and were part of the national title discussion for quite some time. Kirk Ferentz and the Hawkeyes are probably even better this year, but this is an extremely tough non-conference game for them.

The Iowa offense is led by their terrific offensive line. The Hawkeyes offensive line takes on the personality of their coach, and that is a very hard nosed style. The running game is led by Adam Robinson and Jewel Hampton. Ricky Stanzi is the quarterback, and while he isn’t spectacular, he is a winner who gets the job done on a consistent basis. The Hawkeyes will look to control the football this year and wear down the defense.

The Iowa defense is absolutely terrific. I think they will likely be one of the top ten defenses in the country. Adrian Clayborn is probably the best player in the Big Ten. Clayborn will bring the heat and pressure quarterbacks all year long. Tyler Sash is the best safety in the Big Ten, and you can expect to see him roaming around the field in this one. The linebackers are a little inexperienced, but the front four are so good, this team will be very tough to run the football on.

Arizona:

Mike Stoops has been doing a solid job building up this Arizona program, and this is definitely his best team yet. The Wildcats are looking to make a big splash by winning this one on a national stage.

Nick Foles is the signal caller and the leader of this offense. Foles has completed 83% of his passes so far this year, and his accuracy is absolutely tremendous. Arizona has seven of their eight leading pass receivers back from last year, so he has plenty of weapons to work with in the passing game. The running game is led by Nic Grigsby, and they’ll need him to have a solid game to keep this Iowa defense honest.

The Arizona defense was the 21st best in the nation during the 2009 regular season, but they did lose quite a bit of talent. All three linebackers are new, but they all do have a solid amount of experience. The Arizona defensive line has been impressive so far this year, and they’ll need to play the game of their lives against a great Iowa offensive front. The Wildcats secondary is very solid, and they do a nice job keeping the play in front of them.
