Let’s get to the college football prediction for USC vs. Stanford on Saturday night.

USC
The Trojans of USC haven’t played very well all year, and it finally caught up with them last weekend. Washington beat USC on a last minute score. Can Lane Kiffin’s crew respond by beating a very good Stanford team?
The USC offense has been pretty good this year, especially running the football. Allen Bradford is their leading rusher, but they have multiple quality options in the backfield. Matt Barkley has done a great job taking care of the football this year, but the passing offense isn’t nearly as dynamic as what we are used to seeing from USC. Ronald Johnson is a big receiver and he is Barkley’s favorite target.
On defense USC has been very poor this season. The Trojans are allowing 24 points per game, and they are allowing 288 yards through the air each game. The defense isn’t getting pressure on the quarterback, and the secondary just isn’t doing well in coverage. This defense must improve if they are going to make noise in the PAC 10 the rest of this year.
Stanford
The Stanford Cardinal were up 21-3 early against Oregon, but their defense had no answer for the Ducks and Stanford was blown out in the second half last week. They will look to bounce back this weekend.
Andrew Luck has had a terrific year leading this Stanford offense. Luck is probably the best NFL prospect at the quarterback position in all of college football right now. He has a strong arm and he can also make plays with his feet. Luck has 1,253 yards passing and he is averaging 8.1 yards per carry this season. Stanford’s offense is so good because they are balanced. You can’t key in on any single area or this unit will beat you badly.
The Stanford defense is definitely improved this year, but they need to bounce back from their beatdown in the second half of last week’s showdown in Eugene. The secondary is full of veterans and they are very solid, but Stanford has struggled against the run so far this year. The linebackers haven’t been able to get into the backfield and the opposing runners have had too many lanes to cut back into. Stanford will face a tough running attack again this week.
USC vs. Stanford Free College Football Pick:
Stanford’s defense is much improved this year, but they struggle against the run. USC should be able to run the ball effectively in this game. The defense of USC will have a very tough task trying to stop the Stanford offense. I think Andrew Luck will have a huge game here and Stanford will score early and often. The over is 11-3 in the last 14 meetings between these two and I like it again in this one. The free pick in this one is the over!
