Houston at Rhode Island 10* under 145 Rhode Island lost a key player (EC Matthews) in its first game of the season and has struggled some without him. The Rams have beaten the teams they're supposed to beat, but they're averaging just 68.7 points per game and rank 312th in the nation with just 68.2 possessions. Part of that is because the Rams are a terrible free throw shooting team, 61.8%. They did beat Valpo but the score was 58-55 (113). Houston boasts the highest point per possession ranking in the country, but the Cougars have played just one team in the Kenpom top 150 (UL-Monroe #145). In fact, according to Kenpom, Houston has played the easiest schedule by defenses faced in the country. Sagarin also says that the Cougars have played the easiest schedule in the nation. Playing at home I think Rhoddy controls the tempo, and Houston finds it hard to score now that they're stepping up in competition. I have this one at 134.8. Kenpom says 144. Massey says 137. GL!

Oakland is the last Division 1 team to play a game this year. They went to Spain in the summer and were 3-0. Their coach (Greg Kampe) has been at the school for 32 years. Oakland played two exhibition games and scored 113 and 130 points. They are led by 5'9" PG Kahlil Fielder, who averaged 17 ppg and 7 apg. Max Hooper scored 19 and 24 in the two exhibition games and scored his 24 on 8 3-pointers. Gibson, Daniels, Brechting, Dorsey-Walker and Cumberland should contribute.
EMU did lose key players but Tim Bond and Mangum scored double digits in a home win vs. Vermont. These two played a gane that reached 166 points early last year. The Grizzlies opened with 175 and 166 points in their first two games last year.

10* ECU/UNC over 142 Both teams are off losses. The Tar Heels lost at home to Iowa and only scored 55 points and now face East Carolina, who are coached by former UNC guard Jeff Lebo. When these two played two year ago we saw a 93-87 (180 points) game. And ECU's game with Wes Miller's (former UNC guard) UNC Greensboro ended 85-84. Teams are playing a zone against UNC and forcing them to shoot outside and only Marcus Paige is solid from behind the arc (he did miss a late 3 to tie against Iowa and he played high school hoops in Iowa). ECU played a 99-81 game with UNCW and 83-79 with UNCA and 148 points with Hawaii. They just playing a game with FAU that ended with 135 points. ECU is led by Tyson 16 ppg, White at 14 (43% 3's and 92% FT) and Whisnant 11 ppg. Hopefully, someone can get hot and they can reach the mid 60's. And hopefully, they play man to man to allow Kennedy Meeks and Brice Johnson to score inside. UNC plays at Kentucky next Saturday so I expect this to be a fun game and get Paige, Meeks, Brice Johnson, Tokoto, Justin Jackson, etc. some scoring opportunities in a faster paced game that UNC likes to play. Wake Forest did play a home game with Iona that ended with 166 as both were in the 80's. Wake is led by Codi Miller-McIntyre at 11 ppg, Thomas 10 points and 10 rebs, Mitoglu at 8 ppg and several at 7 points. NCSU is led by Turner, Barber and Lacey. They played a 84-72 (156 points) game at home with Richmond. Their home game with Richmond is a rivalry that reached 120. ODU is getting 19 ppg from Trey Freeman and he shoots 92% from the line. Ambrose Mosley is shooting just 28% but can get hot. Richard Ross is at 11 ppg and shoots 62% FG and is an inside threat. Arledge is at 8 ppg but did have 19 vs. UNCW. Palmore, Bacote, Baker and Nik Biberaj contribute for Jeff Jones' Monarchs. Gardner Webb is known as the Runnin'Bulldogs and their games have seen 152, 142, 147 and 175 this year and going back to last year they saw 169, 146, 154, 154 and a high scoring OT game. The two before that reached 135 and 120 and they were road games. GW is led by Hill at 17 ppg and Tsenior PG Tyler Strange at 14 ppg and 7.4 assists. Nelson is at 14 ppg and shoots 55% FG and Davis 12 ppg. If ODU can make some early shots and get into a running game this should reache the upper 130's or higher. Fresno State at Siena 11:30am Saturday 10* under 136.5
These two teams meet for the CBI title. It is tied 1-1 after Siena won at Fresno 61-57 (118) on Monday. They played at Siena on Wednesday and it ended 89-75 as the Bulldogs had notheing to lose and jumped ahead quickly and controlled the pace. Fresno State was 23-36 from the field and 35-43 from the FT line. There were 67 free throws shot Wednesday but only 30 on Monday.
Siena has played unders 25-8-1 in their last 34. This game is being played at their small on campus facility instead of their regular arena. That does concern me some but this game will be played at 11:30am (which is 8:30am Pacific time for the road team).
Fresno State's previous road games:
at UTEP 61-56 (117) at San Jose State 69-56 (125)
I won't be shocked by an over and since FSU is favored by one point there is a decent chance for OT but I like the under in this early game that will be for the CBI title. GL!

Yale is led by Sears at 16.8 ppg but he is questionable with an inury while Duren is PG and at 13.5 while next is Cotton at 8.5 ppg.
Murray State scorers:
Payne 16.6 Williams 14.8 Sapp 13.5 Moss 13 Fields 10 Fairell 7 ppg/7 rbs

Yale plays in the Ivy League and sees Columbia, Brown, Harvard, Princeton and the same eastern teams most of the time but now they get to play at VMI and their high powered offense. VMI's tourney games have seen 182, 201 and 210 points with their opponents. VMI has 3 players (Covington, Peterson and Glasgow) score in the 18-20 range and some of their low scoring games were in their conference tourney as well as an 80-50 loss at Clemson.
Yale should enjoy playing a fast paced game as they did reach 155 at Lafayette and 93-77 (170 points) in the opener with C. Conn State. Last year saw them reach 160 with Nevada and 175 with small school Albertas Morgan. They are led by Sears (17 ppg) and Duren 13.3 ppg.
I won't be shocked by a low scoring game but think we see a score in the 160's with VMI playing.

There should be pressure in this Sweet 16 game as Baylor has a nice zone with players that have amazing length and Wisconsin will be patient to find the gaps and settle for long 3's from Ben Brust. Baylor has Isiah Austin to block shots inside and rebound and the Bears were able to slow down Nebraska and Creighton and held them to 16 and 20 first half points.

I am suggesting a play on the under since it is so high and will be played at Ohio. VMI is an 8 point underdog and on the road. VMI did play a game in the 130's at Clemson. VMI does play some weak teams like UNC Asheville, Radford, High Point and Liberty. The Keydets averaged 170 ppg with their opponent while the Bobcats average 137 ppg with their opponent.
Ohio did play a 164 point game with Western Michigan, 166 with Toldeo and 154 with UMass. Their last few games made it to 110, 126, 160, 118 and 140.
VMI scorers:

Radford at ODU 7pm Monday over 140
Radford averages 78 ppg and played in the Big South while ODU averaged 63 ppg in the Conference USA. Redford lost badly to bigger programs in the state of Virginia as they lost by 25 to Va Tech and lost by 12 and 13 to VMI. They lost to Hampton by 27 as well. Looking at recent Radford games they have played some high scores:
96-92 (188) Oregon State 96-87 (183) UNCA 78-73 (151) Pre 87-83 (170) Liberty 82-78 (160) Campbell
Radford had 3 players score 20+ at Oregon State and have 4 players average double figures:
Green 17 Price 13 Anderson 11.5 Davis 10.5
ODU just beat South Dakota State 72-65 and put up 48 at the half. ODU has been playing average teams like UTEP, FAU, FIU, La Tech, MTU, So Miss, Marshall, Tulane and Rice. Now they play a team they can score against and should have their attention after scoring 96 on the road against major conference team.
ODU is led by:
Bacote 15.9 ppg Batten 10.9 Palmore 10 Ross 9.5 Mosley 7
The Monarchs are 17-17 and have nothing to lose by playing a fast paced game with the Highlanders. ODU didn't play many high scoring games but has reached 72 and 73 in recent home wins.
My guess is we see a 77-68 type of score that goes over.

Both teams can score as UNC aaveraged 146 ppg with their opponent while Iowa State was at 156. Iowa State is without their third leading scorer due to an injury but still has Deandre Kane for Fred Hoiberg's squad that can score inside and inside the lane.
UNC has Marcus Paige to make 3's and Leslie McDonald can get hot but the senior made just 35% of this FG's this season. JP Tokoto is a decent defender but not much of an outside threat and Nate Britt is a playmaker who scores just 5 ppg. JM McAdoo and Brice Johnson are decent scorers inside as well. ISU will be smart to play a zone and keep an eye on Paige from 3's.

Duke has inside/outside threat Jabari Parker. Quin Cook and Andre Dawkins can make 3's and Rodney Hood scores close to 14 ppg. Amile Jeffereson and Rashad Sulaiman has been hot lately. Duke leads the nation in 3-pt. percentage and should get open looks.
I think we see late points and a game in the mid-150's for an over.

over 128.5
It is always sary playing Virginia to go over the total but the Cavs have played well this year. They have had low scores agianst weak teams like JMU, Navy and Hampton. Their early loss at home by 48-38 was an ugly mess. In the last few home games, not counting state rival Va Tech they have scored 77, 76, 78 and 74 points. Last 4 home ACC games:
BC 77-67 (144) UNC 76-61 (137) FSU 78-66 (144) WF 74-51 (125)
Last year's home game with the Terps ended 54-54 before OT but the game at Maryland was in the 140's.
Maryland ACC games have seen at least 138 points except for an 121 game with NC State. 154, 138, 140, 145, 162, 121, 140, 146, 138 and 138 have been the totals of conference games.
Maryland scorers:
Wells 15 ppg (49% FG) Allen 12 ppg (scored 32 last game and is from Woodbridge, VA) Layman 12 Smotcycz 11 Faust 9.8
UVA has both Brogdon and Harris shooting 40% from 3's. Here are the Cavalier scorers:
Brogdon 12 Harris 11.3 Anderson 9.5 Gil 7.8 Tobey 7
Hopefully, Maryland can score enough to get this over. The Terps have 5 players that score close to double figures. Virginia has seen 9 overs/2 unders in the last 11 home games.

Duke played 113 at Miami and 131 at Clemson while Syracuse plays a quirky zone with their last 8 games ending with 124, 116, 113, 128, 102, 124 and 93 points combined with their opponent.
Duke plays solid defense as well. The Orange will be prepared for where Andre Dawkins and Parker are at all times especially after Duke's impressive win at Pitt.

These two played a high scoring game at Minny last year but it was 53-51 at Nebraska and their game two years ago reached 130 points. Nebraska has just two players averaging over 10 ppg and they have played unders in 20 of their last 26 Sunday games. Nebraska in Big Ten:
112 PSU 130 Ohio state 134 Purdue 141 Mich (Mich shot 62% and Neb 53%) 137 Ohio State 124 Iowa
Minnesota has one of their top scorers out.
I think we see an under on Sunday afternoon.

These two have played their share of overs lately but Miami is a solid defensive team that has played some low scoring ACC games so far:
98, 113, 120, and 93 in conference and even played 109 with Nebraska in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
If Duke jumps ahead they could force the pace but this game is at Miami.

Kenpom as this game at 58-56 (114 points). FSU is off a high scoring home game while Miami has played some ugly games, such as the 49-44 one at Syracuse and 63-57 (120) at UNC. Their game at Va Tech went to overtime and ended with 121 scored. FSU has some 115, 126, 112, 97 points games as well as the recent high scoring one.
Miami has 120, 93, 119, 119, 121 and 109.

UNC and UAB played last year and it ended with 182 points scored. The Blazers are coached by former UNC assistant Jerod Haase. When UNC played ECU last year they went over the total easily as the Pirates are coached by former Tar Heel Jeff Lebo.
UAB has a fast paced guard (Frazier) who can score 15 to 20 points and UNC has McAdoo and Marcus Paige even though they will be without Hairston and McDonald again.
I think we see a game in the mid-160's and over.

Kentucky just played a very high scoring game with UTSA at home but their game with Robert Morris ended with a score in the 130's. This is a Monday night game and the Wildcats have a Wednesday game on deck. Ky should be able to play some backups since they are favored by 21.
Cleveland State is not a good offensive team. Let's call for a game in the low 150's.

UVA's highest total last year was 131 and that was the home game with UNC. They did play a game that ended with 139 points with Iowa in the postseason and their game with Duke ended with 141 points. The Cavaliers have played 17 unders/5 overs in their last 22 non-conference games.
The game is at UVA and they will try to dictate pace. Tony Bennett is known for defense and a slow pace. VCU is known for playing fast and trying to force teams to play up to their speed.
UVA's game with JMU was 61-41 (102 points) while VCU's game had 154 points. Kenpom's site has this 66-62 (128 points) so I will look for the under.

Wichita State is a solid squad led by Early and Baker but 13 of their last 17 home games have stayed under so they are used to playing unders. Their first game ended 93-50 for 143 points. Western Ky should be able to play soldi defense and have played unders in 10 of last 11 Monday games even though this looks to start early on Tuesday. The late game may add to a lower score.
WKY had their l;ast few games end with 121, 128, 114, 121 and 134 points. Look for an under in this odd starting time.

Louisville vs. Michigan Monday Night over 138
The trends point to an over on Monday night:
Over is 12-5-1 in MICH last 18 neutral site games. Louisville: Over is 11-0 in LOUVILLe last 11 neutral site games. Over is 9-0 in last 9 overall. Over is 10-1 in last 11 non-conference games.
The Cardinals last three games have seen 140, 148 and 146 points scored. Both games with Duke were in the mid-140's. Early season games with Kentucky ended 80-77 (157) and Memphis had 165 points. Smith, Siva and Hancock are solid scorers for Louisville while Michign has Trey Burke, Hardaway, Robinson ad McGary. They are a young team but are led by Player of the Year Burke.
I think we see an over on Monday night.

Drury vs. Metro State 4pm EDT Sunday Division II Title under 156
These two meet for the Division II national title on Sunday in Atlanta, in Phillips Arena, where the Final Four will take place on Saturday/Monday. The game has usually been played at Springfield, Mass. Both teams played high scoring games in the semifinals but now there will be added pressure going for the title and playing in a big arena on national TV.
The Division 2 title scores have seen 12 of the last 13 stay under 156 points. Last year's game with Western Washington involved only reached 137 points. Metro games average 79-63 (142) as they have 5 scorers in the 11 to 14.7 range and the others are at 2.6 or less.
Drury beat high scoring W Wash 107-97 in the semis and the game before that was 159 points but their two games with Bellarnine made it to 128 and 131. Their average score was 81-64 (145 points). They are led by Alex Hall at 20 ppg and Lockhart at 12.5 ppg. Two others average 10 per game.
We could see plenty of points but 156 is a high total for a title game. Metro beat the highest scoring team (West Liberty) in the country 83-76 (159) and their totals before that were 143, 148, 126, 141, 121 and 157.
I won't be shocked to see an over but like our chances for under 156 on Sunday. I believe CBS will carry this game. GL!

The first game of the series was in California and we saw a game in the 150's but the two teams traveled to Fairfax, Virginia to play Game Two and we saw under win the cash as it was 73-66 (139). The teams shot 65 free throws as GMU had 43 and the Broncos 22.
I think we see the pressure of Game Three and some tired legs after a long season and playing three games in five days.
GMU has just one player (Sherrod Wright) in double figures and they play solid defense under Paul Hewitt while Santa Clara avaerages 142 ppg with their opponent while GMU is at just 133.
I hope we don't see late free throws of OT and get an under.
