The Washington Redskins were one of the bigger disappointments in the NFL last year. Donovan McNabb is no longer with the team, and expectations aren’t very high this season. The Baltimore Ravens had another impressive regular season, but they lost in the playoffs to the Steelers once again.
Mike Shanahan has a reputation as a coach who wants to win preseason games. The Redskins are 2-0 already in this year’s preseason. One of the biggest reasons they are 2-0 right now is the Redskins have a real quarterback competition going on. Rex Grossman and John Beck are both getting plenty of reps with the first team offense. The Redskins have been much slower to put in the second and third stringers than most teams have this preseason. Keep an eye on the Redskins youngsters in the backfield as well. Evan Royster and Roy Helu have both looked good in the preseason.
John Harbaugh isn’t the only Harbaugh brother coaching in the NFL anymore, but he is definitely the brother with the better team. The Ravens defense is getting older, but they are still one of the better defenses in the league. Baltimore must be more consistent offensively if they are going to be successful in the playoffs. Ray Rice should have a bigger season again this year, but look for the receiving corps to be the key to how well this offense performs. Anquan Boldin had a very disappointing year last season, and this team needs much more from him this year.
Redskins vs. Ravens Free NFL Pick: Under 33.5
The Ravens have allowed just 13 points in each of their preseason games. Despite winning both games this preseason, the Redskins have scored just 16 points in both of those games. Washington has only allowed a total of ten points on defense in the preseason. Both defenses should have the edge in this one. The total is set quite low, but I still think it stays under the posted total. Take the under in this one.
