Boise State Broncos vs. Georgia Bulldogs Betting Odds from BetOnline

College Football Betting Spread: Boise State -3 (-105) Georgia +3 (-115)

Moneyline: Boise State (-155) Baylor (+135)

Total: 51

Boise State was just a few seconds and a missed field goal away from going undefeated last year. The Broncos have made it their goal once again this year to get to the BCS National Championship. In order to do that, they’ll certainly have to win this game. The Georgia Bulldogs had a bit of a down year last season, but they have plenty of talent. They will also have a raucous crowd backing them on Saturday night. Who will come out on top in this opening week showdown?

Boise State

Kellen Moore is back for one more year as the Broncos starting quarterback. Moore has been absolutely tremendous his entire career and I expect him to be super again this season. Looking for an amazing statistic on Moore? In his last two seasons he has thrown for 74 touchdowns and just nine interceptions! You won’t see a quarterback in college football with a better touchdown/interception ratio. The loss of Titus Young and Austin Pettis will certainly hurt the passing game, but I expect Moore to find some other reliable receivers as the season moves along. Doug Martin and D.J. Harper are a great tailback tandem. Boise State should be able to run it against every team they play this year.

The Boise State offense typically gets all the credit, but this defense has been amazing the last few years. Last year this defense gave up just 259 yards of total offense per game, which was fourth best in the country. The defensive line will be the strength of this unit in 2011. Shea McClellin and Tyrone Crawford are great on the ends and Chase Baker is a great run stuffer in the middle. Jeron Johnson is gone from the secondary, and that will likely cause a drop in production. Expect this defense to be very good, but not quite as good as last year.

Georgia

Aaron Murray threw for more than 3,000 yards as a redshirt freshman last year. Murray has the arm strength and the poise in the pocket to be a tremendous quarterback. Unfortunately he lost a ton of weapons on the outside. A.J. Green was probably the best wide receiver in the nation last year, and Kris Durham is also gone. Washaun Ealey was the team’s leading rusher, but he transferred away from Georgia. Still, the Bulldogs should be fine in the backfield. Caleb King is a talented veteran, and Isaiah Crowell was one of the top recruits in the country. I expect this offense to improve a lot as the year goes along.

The Bulldogs defense will have three new starters at the linebacker position, and that could be a bit of an issue. The front three should be very good, and the strength of the defense will be the secondary. Bacarri Rambo not only has a very cool name, but he is also a terrific leader for this secondary. The defense was a bit suspect against the run last year, and they will be tested in this one.

Boise State vs. Georgia Pick: Boise State -3

I think the Broncos are being underrated by the oddsmakers in this one. Georgia will certainly be a tough test, but Boise State has the better defense and the better signal caller. Boise State should be highly motivated in this one, and I think their running game will be the difference in this one. I like Boise State to win and cover the spread here.
