Connecticut Huskies Preview:

Coach Randy Edsall has done a very nice job of building up this Connecticut Huskies football program. Last year, they went 8-5 and won their bowl game over the South Carolina GameCocks. Another interesting note is that all of this team’s five losses were by four points or less. The Huskies have a ton of talent back in 2010, and they should be even better than last year.

Zach Frazer will likely get most of the playing time at quarterback, but Cody Endres is a very solid backup as well. The offensive line is a huge area of strength for the Huskies, as their linemen have consistently proven able to knock their opponents off the ball and create huge holes in the running game. Jordan Todman is a supremely talented running back who should be one of the best runners in the Big East this year. This Huskies offense is a bit short on depth at the wide receiver spot, but overall they look very good.

The defense is led by a pair of strong linebackers in Scott Lutrus and Lawrence Wilson. The run defense is very solid with defensive tackles that clog the lanes and linebackers that know their roles well. The issue for the defense is against the pass. Last year, the Huskies allowed 235 passing yards per game, which was last in the Big East. They don’t have any real leader in the secondary this year either.

Michigan Preview:

Rich Rodriguez’s job is likely on the line this year at Michigan. The expectations were that this team would turn around quicker than they have. Anything less than a bowl berth and I think Rodriguez will be gone after this year.

Tate Forcier and Denard Robinson will team up to form a very nice quarterback combination for the Wolverines in 2010. Devin Gardner is also a strong freshman quarterback that could see some action for Michigan. The offensive line is a solid group of veterans who should do very well this season. On the outside, the Wolverines are loaded at the wide receiver position. The only real question mark for Michigan is at the running back spot, where no one has stepped up as the clear leader as of yet. This offense should be very good in 2010.

As good as the offense is, the defense is just not good at all for Michigan right now. Greg Robinson is implementing a 3-3-3-5 scheme to try to improve things after last year’s terrible results from this unit. The defensive line is a big weakness for Michigan, especially after losing Brandon Graham to the NFL. The linebackers have some talent, but they have been quite disappointing in the last couple years. The secondary has a couple solid players, but they lack the depth necessary to be great. This defense could hold the team back once again in 2010.

College Football Betting Trends:

UConn is 12-2 ATS in their last14 games overall

Michigan is 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games overall

The over is 7-1 in UConn’s last 8 games

The over is 5-2 in Michigan’s last 7 home games

UConn vs. Michigan College Football Prediction:

Michigan is a small home favorite here, and while I can’t blame the books for the number, I think UConn has a decent chance at winning this game. I do think the best value out of all the plays is the a play on the over in this matchup. Michigan should be able to throw all over UConn and the Huskies should run like crazy on Michigan. Take over 54 in this game.
