UCF Knights vs. BYU Cougars College Football Betting Odds from JustBet

College Football Betting Spread: BYU -2 (-110) Central Florida +2 (-110)

Moneyline: BYU (-127) UCF (+107)

Total: 44

Both Central Florida and Brigham Young are coming off a disappointing loss last week. Both teams were favored last weekend, but they slipped up on the road. Expectations are high for both of these programs. Which team can right the ship on national television this Friday night?

UCF

The Knights have been a good team for the last few years, but their signature win came last year in the Liberty Bowl when they defeated the Georgia Bulldogs. George O’Leary’s team is one of the best in Conference USA again this year. It all starts with the running game for Central Florida. The Knights easily have the deepest backfield in the conference. Ronnie Weaver, Brynn Harvey, and Latavius Murray are all terrific runners that can gash the opposing defense on any given run. Jeff Godfrey is an impressive dual-threat quarterback who fits into the system extremely well. The running game is great, but the coaches have to be concerned that the team is averaging just 204 passing yards, and they have yet to score a touchdown this year through the air.

The true strength of the UCF football team is the defense. At this point in the season, UCF ranks among the best defenses in the nation in every major statistical category. This is a unit that has allowed only 92 passing yards per game over their first three contests! Opponents are scoring just 6.7 points per game against Central Florida in 2011.

BYU

BYU started the season slowly last year, and then they ended on a hot streak. The Cougars have played a tough schedule so far this year, but after the win at Mississippi and the first half at Texas this team appeared headed for much better things. The wheels absolutely fell off in the second half of their rivalry game against Utah last week. You better believe that Bronco Mendenhall’s team had a tough week of practice after being embarrassed on their home field.

Jake Heaps is a talented sophomore quarterback, but he has been making too many mistakes of late. Heaps has four interceptions and he already has multiple fumbles this year as well. The BYU running game has been non-existent this year. J.J. Di Luigi is a solid pass receiver out of the backfield, but he isn’t the prototypical runner that can hurt the defense all game long. BYU is averaging just 13.1 points per game so far this year, which is one of the worst marks in all of football. The defense has been solid all year up until their second half collapse last week against Utah. I expect this defense to bounce back and play better this week.

UCF vs. BYU Free Pick: UCF Moneyline

UCF has a terrific running game as well as a great defense, and that is a combination I like a lot. BYU has struggled terribly on offense this year, and now they are facing a great defense. I think the Knights come out of Utah with a win.
