Oregon State Preview:

The Oregon State Beavers will be an interesting team to watch in 2010. The Rodgers brothers are still there, which means this is an extremely dangerous team. On the other hand, the Beavers are without a tested starting quarterback, which could prove troublesome.

Sean Canfield did a nice job under center last year for Oregon State, but he graduated. It is now up to Ryan Katz to take the reigns of this offense and lead them efficiently. The coaches won’t ask him to win the game by himself, but they need him to avoid making costly mistakes. Jacquizz Rodgers is probably the best running back in the PAC 10 conference, which means the Beavers should continue to have a great running game this year. James Rodgers is a great pass receiver and is terrific in the open field.

The Beavers defense is led by Stephen Paea, the terrific defensive tackle who clogs the running lanes beautifully for this team. One issue that must be addressed is their sack total from last year, which was just 17. Oregon State ranked 105th in the nation in sacks. The defensive ends must get more pressure on the quarterback this year if this team is going to win the big games such as this one. The secondary is relatively weak, and strong passing teams will likely roll up quite a few yards on this unit.

TCU Preview:

You can’t say enough about the job Gary Patterson has done for the Horned Frogs of TCU in the last few years. The 2009 season didn’t end the way they wanted, but TCU has made a real name for itself these last couple years. This team lost a ton of talent on the defensive side of the ball, but don’t overlook them at all because they still have depth and skilled players all over the field.

The offense is loaded for the TCU Horned Frogs. Andy Dalton is back for his senior year, and I expect big things from him. Dalton is a great decision maker and a dual-threat quarterback who can beat you in just about every way possible. Matthew Tucker and Ed Wesley are super talented running backs, who will get to run behind an offensive line that you could argue is the best in the country! TCU also returns four top notch wide receivers, so Dalton will have plenty of weapons to use. This offense should be absolutely terrific!

You might think a defense that lost Jerry Hughes and Daryl Washington will be weak, but you would be wrong! Tank Carder is a star in the making at the linebacker spot and Tanner Brock is an extremely talented youngster. On the defensive line, Wayne Daniels should do a great job putting heat on the opposing quarterback. Cornerback is the only area where TCU appears slightly weak this year. Overall, this is a very good defense once again.

College Football Betting Trends:

TCU is 16-8 ATS in their last 24 games overall

Oregon State is 16-9 ATS in their last 25 games overall.

Oregon State is 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games as the underdog.

Oregon State vs. TCU College Football Free Pick/Prediction:

Both of these teams are solid, but I really like this TCU team. I think they will be out to prove that last year was not a fluke at all. The Horned Frogs are deeper on both offense and defense than the Beavers. If they can keep Quizz Rodgers under control, they should win this fairly easily. I’ll take TCU -13.5 here.

TCU- 35 Oregon State- 17
