Iowa Hawkeyes (4-1) vs. Michigan Wolverines (5-1) Betting Lines from BetUS

MoneyLine: Iowa (-160) Michigan (+140)

College Football Betting Spread: Iowa -3 (-115) Michigan +3 (-105)

Over/Under: 54.5

Iowa:

The Hawkeyes had a meltdown in the first 20 minutes in Arizona earlier this year, but other than that they have played flawless football. This is a team that expects to win the Big Ten title, but they have a tough game this weekend.

In the offseason Ricky Stanzi made it his top priority to minimize the number of interceptions he threw in 2010. So far he has done a brilliant job, as he has thrown for 10 touchdowns and just two interceptions in five games. Adam Robinson is a solid back, and the offensive line does a nice job in the run blocking schemes. The Hawkeyes have a pair of very good receivers in Johnson-Koulianos and McNutt. Iowa’s goal on offense is usually to control the ball and wear down the defense.

The Iowa defense is one of the best in the nation. The Hawkeyes are ranked first in points per game allowed, giving up just 10.2 points. Iowa is also second in the nation in rushing defense and fourth in total defense. The front four for the Hawkeyes is probably the best in college football. Clayborn, Binns, Klug, and Ballard are all great at stuffing the run and pressuring the quarterback. Safety Tyler Sash is also a star who will be playing in the NFL soon. This defense will be a big test for Michigan.

Michigan:

The Wolverines started 5-0 again this year, but last week’s performance against the Spartans was a big disappointment for their fans. Can this team beat the top teams in the Big Ten?

Denard Robinson has become one of the most electrifying players in college football. Robinson has thrown for 1,223 yards and run for 991 yards already this year. He has the speed and agility to take it all the way each time he touches the football. The Wolverines have a great group of wide receivers and a solid offensive line, but they haven’t found a consistent threat at the tailback position yet. If this unit becomes a little more balanced they will be extremely tough to stop.

The Michigan defense has had serious problems the last couple years, and they are once again the weak link of this team. The Wolverines are allowing 304 yards through the air each game, and they also struggle against power running teams. Michigan State ran for 249 yards last weekend and this defensive front seemed to have no answer. Mike Martin is a star up front, but the rest of the front seven just hasn’t been productive enough. Michigan must find a way to step up defensively if they are going to contend in the Big Ten this year.

Iowa vs. Michigan College Football Free Pick:

The Iowa defense is too good to allow Michigan to score a ton of points, and Iowa doesn’t have a dynamic offense. I think the total, which is set at 54.5, is too high. The free pick on this game is the under.
